Abstract

Thrombolytic therapy within 6 hours of the onset of symptoms significantly improves clinical outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke, but many patients failed to receive timely treatment in China. The factors contributing to such admission delays in China remain largely unknown. We sought to identify important risk factors of admission delay after ischemic stroke in an urban tertiary care setting in China.

Introduction

Ischemic stroke is a major cause of death in many countries, and fatality rate in ischemic stroke patients is about 20% to 30% in China. According to the third National Sampling Survey of Chinese residents on causes of death, cerebrovascular disease has become the leading cause of death in China, and stroke mortality is higher in rural areas than in urban areas.
