Abstract

In individuals with Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM), comprehensive diabetes treatment decreases the course of retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy, according to the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT). The daily treatment of IDDM is challenging, and since the development of insulin therapy, the highest rates of morbidity and death have been associated with chronic metabolic decompensation and its long-term consequences, such as retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular disease.
